Hi World! Did you think we’d died? Yeh we did too for a bit (musically of course). We’ve had a bit of a hiatus over Christmas, but first things first. Merry Christmas & Happy (Belated) New Year!

We’ve been quiet over the period for one simple reason … not much is taking our fancy musically at the moment…. so I’ve been going back to the slightly older stuff & finding some absolute gems.

Of course, that isn’t to say we’ve been sitting in knitting socks over Christmas. Oh no, we’ve had some fantastic nights up in Newcastle so a huge thank you has to go to the DJs, MCs, promotion teams, managers & staff at Digital, Cosmic Ballroom, World Headquarters & TheCut. You know who you are … without you Newcastle would be nothing. You really do make it happen.

An enormous apology to Ihsaan over at NoiseWave who sent me his excellent review of Gui Boratto’s 2011 album III. He actually sent me it weeks ago & I’ve just never gotten round to posting it so I’m going to link to it instead of a copy & paste. You deserve the credit. Gui Boratto III Album Review @ NoiseWave.

How Big Is Your Drop?

I don’t think I’m the only one thinking that to many people “dubstep” is now synonymous with “Skrillex”. Now I like Skrillex, I think technically he has skills. What I don’t like is the movement, the almost sub-genre this has spawned where tracks are made not for their musical content, harmonies, rhythms or lyrics but simply for the drop. The defining factor of the track (and therefore it’s success) seems to be – How big, filthy, noisy & musically irrelevant can I make this drop?

To this end you’ll probably be hearing a lot more of the deeper side of dub / reggae on LR from now on. In that vain, I found this track courtesy of our friends over at Vacay Vitamins.

STFU, I Want Music!

OK, OK! Here you go.
