Last week Annie Nightingale (MBE) celebrated 40 years on at the forefront of new music on BBC Radio 1.
Accordingly Radio 1 dedicated an evening to Annie & broadcast a 2 hour documentary with commentary from some of the artists, musicians & people Annie has connected with, and influenced, along the way including Cassius, Shaun Ryder, Pete Townshend & Beth Orton.
There’s a great timeline available with a selection of important / stand out moments in her career & the full 2 hour interview is available until Sunday 19th September at midnight.
The broadcast continued with a 3 hour tribute concert with what can only be described as a who’s-who in music:
- Primal Scream
- Fatboy Slim
- Tinchy Stryder
- Sub Focus
- Professor Green
- I Blame Coco
- DC Breaks
- Freestylers
- Bookashade
For anyone who claims to be into their music history this is essential listening. Everyone else should listen anyway, just to appreciate how much Anne Nightingale has given the world through music.
I’ve just noticed – I think she’s the only person on the BBC allowed to wear sunglasses in their PR shots – Brilliant!
Oh, and did I mention she’s 68 years old? Damn I hope I look that good at 68!
