This track was “only an experiment to see if I could fuse the smooth texture of the marimba with abrasive dubstep” … Well it got you to BBC Radio 1′s A List.

These guys are so well known, I’m not even going to bother with a drawn out introduction. If you haven’t heard of them by now, maybe it’s time to go back to the charts? OK, maybe that was a little harsh – but you get my point.
For the past week or so they’ve been releasing old remixes they’ve done for people that for one reason or another never made it onto their Soundcloud.
Note: You can hear the full tracks on their Soundcloud page. These are shortened & restructured samplers. If you like this, visit their soundcloud or use the iTunes links at the bottom if this post to show your appreciation.

Canadian born Drivepilot (aka Nick Edwards) has not only remixed everyone from the likes of Haezer to Hall & Oates, produces track after track of his own high quality material but seemingly can turn his hand to anything from electro house to dubstep. As soon as we heard his tracks we knew we had to get him on LR…. So here we go!
Note: These are shortened & restructured edits. If you like these, please buy them legally.
Hall & Oates – Private Eyes (Drivepilot Remix)
LR: What came first for you, DJiing or production?
Production… I’ve been a musician/producer/engineer for a lot of years. I began to DJ my own stuff out about a year and a half ago.
LR: Who would you consider your influences to be (musically)?
Such a hard question to answer – everything I’ve ever enjoyed is an influence… But the main few would be Nine Inch Nails, Justice, SebastiAn, The Bloody Beetroots … They really opened my eyes to the raw agressiveness that electronic music could offer, while at the same time balancing it again non-aggressive elements.
LR: A lot of artists prefer working with a partner / co-producer. How do you avoid the creative blocks & continue to hammer out the bangers?
It can be hard. I am a hardcore perfectionist, so working with others can be really challenging to me.. I find that when I “try” to write stuff is when I run into creative blocks… If I just sit down and let things flow out, it tends to not be as big of a problem most of the time. But that’s easier said than done sometimes.
LR: Do you have any go-to hardware or software?
Yes, I know a lot of people “look down” on it, but I produce everything in FL studio- I’ve worked with many DAWs and I feel it is really such an amazing platform to easily get the ideas down in a work environment that flows very well. Everybody is different though, so really finding a DAW that fits your workflow and learning as much as possible is key. For synths, I often use Sylenth and Arturia synths.
LR: Your studio is on fire. You have time to save one piece of equipment … what would it be & why?
I would probably die trying to save everything.
LR: What can we expect from Drivepilot in the future?
This last few months have been focused on playing out… Ive got 2 EPs being released soon, and hopefully starting work on putting together new material for an LP this summer when I’m back in Portland.
LR: You split your time between Vancouver & Portland. Given the choice, Vancouver or Portland?
I spend most my time in Portland the last few years, but I was born and lived for a long time in Vancouver, so I still feel very attached to it being “home”. I guess I would have to choose Vancouver if given the choice. Portland can be kind of a sleepy city sometimes, but I love it also.
LR: You’re from the snowsports Capital of the world – Skiing or Boarding?
I snowboarded for years when I was a teenager – Portland and Vancouver both have great spots, but I blasted out my knee years ago on the mountain and wasn’t able to snowboard/skate, which is when I started to get into playing instruments and writing music. Looking back though, I’m glad it happened!!

At 22 years old, you might be expecting the quality of music being produced by French beat-maker NEUS to be somewhat rough-around-the-edges & perhaps with a slightly incomplete frequency spectrum.
However, you’d be very wrong indeed.
NEUS means (New Experimental Universal Sound) and we can testify to that! Massive basslines, squeaky synths, great samples & top drawer production = dancefloor destruction!

NEUS Interview
LR: What is your real name?
Neus: Hi! You can call me Gael NEUS.
LR: Who are your music inspirations?
I’m not really froze in a kind of music, i just like good music. I know I like an artist when i can listen to all his album. All the artists I remixed or will remix belong to my influences too. Many friends pushed me inside a lot of rock and metal songs when I was young, and came after the electro mainstream as Benny Benassi who made me hear much of the underground music it was before. Ed Banger made me listen to a wide panel of artists and many genres I didnt know before, that’s why I like them.
My main influences by genre are:
Marilyn Manson, RATM, SOAD, Radiohead,Red Hot Chilli Pepper MGMT, Daft Punk, Deadmau5, Gui Boratto, Noisia, Aphex Twin, Amon Tobin, The Prodigy, High tones, De Facto, Bob Marley, Jamiroquai, Hendrix &
The Mars Volta.
LR: Who would you love to collaborate with & why?
SebastiAn/Justice/Mr Oizo/Mr Flash from Ed Banger because these guys have a real and unique talent, they got styles and know what means versatility. Noisia because I love the work they do on their subbed basses and it’s always nice to hear the quality on the powerfull drums they give around drum’n'bass and dubstep sounds. Skrillex because this guys is doing a really great job on basslines, and know how to turn mainstream’s stuff to a bangin well done remix, and he’s actually in a good way to compose music. Siriusmo because I like this random guys, when you play one of his new track, you don’t really know what will happen, thats what I like, he got the style, and he’s very random. I would like with bands like Two Door Cinema Club or Does it Offend You, Yeah?
LR: Your studio is on fire. You have time to save one piece of equipment… what would it be & why?
MY HARD DISK DRIVE!!! All my music’s stuff is stucked inside.
LR: You’re a busy man! When not producing, you run your own label “Fuck The Sound Records”.
Neus: Yes, doing music makes me meet a lot of people doing music too, so music made a wide network of friends composers, and i’m ready to contribute in their projets untill the sales. So I began to make and work this for the people who was like me, working sounds in their rooms, and who wanted to expand their project, and I turned it to a kind of family, where’s all the composer know each other and can remix/collaborate and sale.
LR: What’s in store for FTS Records / NEUS in 2011?
We could see a Flat Fuzz, The Noisy Freaks, 123MRK, Alienhearts, Tassels, Persephone, and Adyx’s EPs.. All these guys got a talent, and I will definitly help them to grow, including much more people who wanna be part of the project.

Big News for homegrown hip hop collective the Verbal Terrorists!
The collective of Tyneside artists have been awarded a grant from Ideastap – a creative network & funding body working to promote emerging talent in the arts.
The funding has secured a deal with the Verbal Terrorists to be able to collaborate with US rap-legends Dead Prez on their second album “War on Terra” (due for release in June).
Dead Prez are renowned for their politically motivated lyrics so the results certainly should be striking. Of course, the publicity DP will bring to the new album certainly won’t hurt.
That they’re homegrown talent isn’t the only reason we’re blogging about them, however. Their delivery, lyrical content & production on their first album “Small Axe” is top drawer & we certainly could see them following in the footsteps of other North East talent Dom P & Stig of the Dump.
By the way, their debut album “Small Axe” is available for purchase on their myspace page. With a simply ingenious (and suitable independent-thinking) pay scale. You essentially pay what you can afford … “if you’re well off and wanting to support independent lefty music it’s £10 if on the other hand you’re hard up, seriously skint or feeling the pinch of the dreaded ‘credit crunch’ then it’s a fiver…simple as that.”

Dubstep producer Flux Pavilion has followed his massive single “Bass Cannon” by creating a one of a kind Bass Cannon (a Bazooka BT1014 10-Inch 4-Ohm Bass Tube) decorated by Flux himself!
He’s listed it on eBay & all proceeds to the Red Cross Tsunami Appeal to help Japan after their horrendous earthquake a few weeks ago.
We urge you to bid, the chances of you winning are slim but every bid means an increase in the money being sent to Japan. We think this is not only a great publicity piece for Flux but a very worthy cause too – a true win-win!
Joe Garston
After being hounded by fans on Facebook & Soundcloud, Lazy Records favourite Joe Garston has released a full version of his track ‘Forget About It’ as a free download from Soundcloud.
